Christian Things by:Abigail

I've went through and pulled all the Christian things mom has said over the years on this blog and am posting them here.  Thank God for such a Godly Mom!  Mamma tought me no matter how big the trials are Jesus will always pull you trough!!  Here we go.

Christmas eve 2007-
...And lo the angel of the Lord came apon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them and they were sore afraid.

And the angel said unto to them, fear not; for, behold, i bring you good tidings of great joy which shall be to all people.

For unto you born this day in the city of David a Savior which, is Christ the Lord.

And this shall be a sign unto you; ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes and, lying in a manger.

And suddenly ther was angel a multitudes and heavenly host praising God, and saying, glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.  Luke 2:9-14

Count Your Blessings....

Name them one by one. I could not sleep last night. So I started praying and thinking and praying some more. I learned early on in motherhood to try to saver the rocking and walking and night time comforting that goes into gassy, teething, or sick babies. I started a habit of quiet prayer during these times. Prayer can quickly turn a resentful spirit into a thankful spirit.

I cannot blame my sleepless night on Rose, it was just one of those nights. Thinking of the New Year left me reflecting on this past year. There were many challenges and many blessings. I started the New Year with a baby. It doesn't get any better than that! Soon to follow was a new nephew! Thank God for children!

I began to think about how my kids have grown this past year. Of course physically they grew more than I care to count! But they have matured and the four oldest have become such a blessing. There is a point with kids that all the nurturing and pouring in of time and energy and training is rewarded. They know how to do pretty much everything I can do around the house. They know how to take care of one another. We may very well fall short when it comes to text books, but these kids love the Lord, have a genuine desire to grow in the Word, and they know how to take care of each other. I am so very proud of them.

I won't spell out all of the challenges this year has brought my way, but I do want to give God praise for bringing me through every one of them. One thing I praise Him for is protection. I see it everyday. He protected Wendy from serious injury when she took a big fall a couple of months ago. He has provided great healing for her little mouth. She prayed that God would bring her teeth down, and praise God her prayer was answered!

I am also so thankful as we prepare to celebrate Rose's first birthday that I was able to successfully nurse her without supplementing. I had some unique challenges that I have not had to deal with ever before. I know God allowed this and I am so thankful that our prayers were answered and He continues to supply all of our needs.

But even the very hairs of your head are numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows. Luke 12:7

Happy 4th of July

Patriotic Freedom

John Quincy Adams:• “Why is it that, next to the birthday of the Savior of the world, your most joyous and most venerated festival returns on this day [the Fourth of July]?" “Is it not that, in the chain of human events, the birthday of the nation is indissolubly linked with the birthday of the Savior? That it forms a leading event in the progress of the Gospel dispensation? Is it not that the Declaration of Independence first organized the social compact on the foundation of the Redeemer's mission upon earth? That it laid the cornerstone of human government upon the first precepts of Christianity"?--1837, at the age of 69, when he delivered a Fourth of July speech at Newburyport, Massachusetts.

Read more quotes from our founding fathers here. If you've not ever read the Declaration of Independence, today is a great day to read it and be thankful!

Simple Living, Living Simply

Simplicity is the property, condition or quality of being simple. It often denotes beauty, purity , and clarity. Simple things are ususally easier to explain and understand than complicated ones. (as defined on wikipedia.org)

I have been thinking a lot lately about simplicity and the benefits of a simple life. Like the definition states, simplicity is living a life of beauty, purity, and clarity. I would add that this is only possible through Christ. I am saved by grace through Jesus. My sins are forgiven and I have hope in my salvation alone. I am blessed to be a child of God and He has blessed me with a precious family. I am learning to serve my Father by serving my family.

I have a tendency to be a distracted, overwhelmed person; but my desire is to be focused and purposeful. The only way to do this is to daily focus on bible reading and on the Lord. I am learning to fully trust in His plan for my life and follow His commands. I have much to learn. The world wants to make me believe that happiness is anything but simplicity. The world values everything but simplicity....especially for women, we are told that we "need" so many things to be beautiful and complete. I would say just the opposite. The less stuff the better, emotionally, physically, materialistically. We only need more when it concerns God's plan for our life.

My simple prayer for today....Lord, help me die to self, so I may serve you better.

A Birthday AND Free Food...

It doesn't get much better than that. We all enjoyed some delicious combo meals from Chick Fil A today. That's a big treat for a family our size. AND it's Jacob's 16th birthday. It is sooo hard to believe I have a kid that age. We've had a great family day and lots of fun dressing up like cows. You might think I made my older kids dress up. Nope, they were very willing for good free food! I asked Jacob last night if he would mind dressing up to go and he laughed and said he would even dance for food. Like most teenage boys he LIKES to eat and eat he does.

Samuel, as usual had a really unique style for his cow costume. That's a black trash bag and a spot on the rump, just like any good cow :)

Lily may have been the cutest cow we have. She could hardly wait to go to Chick-Uh-Lay as she called it. The afternoon could not come soon enough for her so we could go. The location we went to had an indoor play area which made it even better for the little ones. We will look forward to Cow Appreciation Day 2010.
~~Happy 16th Birthday Jacob~~
We love you very much!!

What we've been doing....

We have been working hard and playing hard. Here's a little of what we've been up to, my style. more pictures than words...
Jacob turned 15! Happy Birthday...we love you!
Ro-Ro is working on her culinary skills!
We watched lots of baseball...which made for fun evenings at the ball field! Samuel's team won their district and had a good showing in the state tournament. We were very proud of him.
A beautiful rainbow after a storm before a ball game....
Our favorite time of day is first thing in the morning. We go outside to play and have a little Bible time before it gets hot.

Summer school piano lessons....

We continue a half day version of home school so we can do fun things like slip and slide after lunch!

We've been organizing, gardening, visiting the library every couple of days for movies and books, bike riding, and playing with friends! One last picture, my cutie nephew, Jackson!

"Take Me Out ToThe Ball Game" Re-Mix

Take me out to the ball game,

When we all come it's a crowd,
Buy me some popcorn and freezee pops, We don't care if we ever get back,
'Cause we'll Root! Root! Root! for our bubba's and sissy,
If we don't win it's O.K,
It's One Two Three strikes or goals,

And our Daddy's the coach and we've all had fun,
At the old ball game!

Wendy's Four!

Wendy was excited about her birthday for a loooong time. She told everyone, I mean every single person she came in contact with that her birthday was March 31. Her age varied depending on the day, but she always knew March 31, which started out sounding more like March farty-first. We worked quickly to correct that pronunciation:0) This is Wendy at my sister's house in Maryland. We really enjoyed having her party there. Wendy wanted cup cakes with sprinkles and strawberry ice cream! Her gifts included new sand box toys, clothes, play-doh, and pink tye-dye crocs!

Here's Wendy playing dress-up. This dress has been loved and worn for years. I can't believe it is still in one piece. That's a lavender hankerchief with a green scrunchy on the front, her own fashion creation!

Wendy's hair is getting so long. She is learning to brush it and can put it up in a pony tail all by herself.
Wendy loves to play babies and puppies. She would drop any inside fun to go outside and ride her scooter or jump on the trampoline!
Happy Birthday Wendy, we love you!
