The supplies...fabric, fringe for trim and upholstery tacks for hanging, notice no curtain rods....
Here's the really bad before picture. It's a wooden, wallpaper covered valance with some sort of gold painted thing on top. Nice, huh? Yep this is what we look at when we're goin' potty!
Here's the pretty fabric that I chose with lots of helpers...I bought about a yard and a half and folded it in half like this.
Next I pinned on this pretty fringe and sewed it on the bottom of the folded fabric.

I climbed up on a step stool and folded the top of the fabric over about two inches and started tacking onto the top of that wood valance. Every little bit I folded a generous pleat and tacked that. This was so easy and quick! And so pretty. I can't wait to sit and look at my pretty mistreatment.
Look, isn't it pretty.
So we don't disappoint the Nanas and so you all can see my adorable assistant here's a shot of little Rose. We were getting before shots of our next project, the upstairs bath.
Curtains, Shmurtains, just look at my tongue, it's my new trick!
Stay tuned, I'll be mistreating the upstairs bath next!

MONICA,
IT LOOKS AWESOME!! I LOVE THE FABRIC! GREAT JOB! I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE IT UP CLOSE! MARIE
That looks so great! And I loooove the toile. You've inspired me to try out a mistreatment in our bathroom. GREAT JOB!!!
Wow... It looks great! How much did it cost you, if you don't mind me asking?? I do not sew, so I have no clue when it comes to fabric costs.
Looks great, good job!
Monica,
This looks great--can't wait to see the rest. I've been wanting to do a "mistreatment" for a while, and you made it look SO much easier. I have some African cloths I hope to do it with, so we'll see! :)
Good job helping, Rose. ;)

Came over via The Nester to see your mistreatment... GREAT JOB! I love it and you'd never be able to tell it was your first time mistreatin', lol
This looks beautiful!! Job well done. Isn't it amazing what little changed can do to make a room look better (or at least inspire me to clean it more often:)
Excellent job. So glad I found you. Fellow home school mom and will love checking out your archives.
It looks great! I love toile, and the trim adds a cute touch!
That looks beautiful! Love the fringe. My sewing machine is in storage so I would've had to resort to the glue gun! :)
I love the green! Excellent choice and adorable baby! Seven kids? Hats off to you, girl!!
This is beautiful!! I love it!! I love the fabric, the trim, and how you chose to "mistreat" it! So tailored, yet feminine!
it looks great! That fringe really finishes it off and what a sweet baby! makes me want one.
Much better--and beautiful fabric.
Of course my favorite part is seeing your sweet little sweet pea.

I love how you did the step-by-step description, ala The Nester! And your baby is adorable!!!!
This may give me the confidence to give valances a whirl. Now if I can get some free time in a fabric store....
